Summary

Ray Gonzales is a ceramic artist whose work is deeply rooted in storytelling, history, and cultural tradition. Drawn to clay for its tactile and narrative qualities, he sees the material as both a canvas and a connection to the past. His sculptures reflect personal experiences and world events, blending ancestral influences with contemporary expression. On the wheel, he explores both traditional and modern forms, experimenting with color, texture, and firing techniques—from electric and gas kilns to Raku and primitive firings. For Gonzales, clay is more than a medium; it is a lifelong passion and an ever-evolving dialogue with history and self.
